How One Injury Changed My Training.. But Not My Morning Routine

Two weeks ago, everything changed in a split second.

I was boxing during a sparring session, something I've always enjoyed as part of staying fit.

Although I haven't competed competitively for around 15 years, boxing has remained part of my training routine alongside strength training and running.

I'm 36 now.

I have a family.

These days, my focus isn't standing on a podium.

It's staying strong, healthy, lean, and setting an example for the people around me.

Then it happened.

I took a step backwards during a sparring exchange and instantly felt what I can only describe as someone kicking me in the back of my right heel.

At the exact same moment, I heard what sounded like a gunshot.

Bang.

My Achilles had completely ruptured.

Within seconds I knew something wasn't right.

That injury immediately changed what training looked like for me.

Injuries Change Your Goals... Not Your Habits

For someone who's always been active, suddenly becoming immobile is frustrating.

Running is off the table.

Boxing is off the table.

Even walking normally isn't an option for now.

But one thing hasn't changed.

My commitment to looking after my body.

I'm still strength training around the injury.

I'm still paying attention to my nutrition.

I'm still making conscious decisions about what I eat each day.

Because while I can't control the injury, I can control how I support my recovery.

Why Protein Coffee Plus Is Still the First Thing I Have Every Morning

People often ask whether I actually drink Protein Coffee Plus.

The answer has always been yes.

And that's even more true now.

It's still the very first thing I have every morning.

Originally, I created Protein Coffee Plus because I wanted a convenient way to increase my protein intake, enjoy quality coffee before work, and have a clean pre-workout before training.

Now, it serves another purpose as well.

During recovery, getting adequate protein becomes even more important.

Protein provides the building blocks your body needs to repair and rebuild tissues after injury, while helping preserve muscle mass during periods of reduced activity.

Even though my routine has changed, Protein Coffee Plus still fits perfectly into my day.

Why We Chose Collagen Protein

One of the key ingredients in Protein Coffee Plus is collagen protein.

That wasn't an accident.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is a major structural component of tendons, ligaments, skin, cartilage and connective tissue.

Research suggests that collagen supplementation, particularly when combined with an appropriate rehabilitation program, may help support collagen synthesis and tendon health by providing amino acids that are important for connective tissue. While collagen isn't a treatment for a ruptured Achilles and won't replace surgery or physiotherapy, it can be a practical way to increase your daily protein intake while supporting your body's normal repair processes.

For me, it's another small piece of the recovery puzzle.

Not a miracle solution.

Just another habit that supports the bigger picture.

Recovery Is Built on Small Decisions

One thing coaching thousands of Australians has taught me is this:

Recovery is rarely about one big thing.

It's about hundreds of small decisions made consistently.

Getting enough protein.

Following your rehabilitation program.

Managing your nutrition.

Sleeping well.

Doing what you can, rather than focusing on what you can't.

That's the mindset I'm taking into this recovery.

My Training Looks Different, But I'm Still Training

Although I won't be boxing or running for quite some time, that doesn't mean I've stopped training.

I'm adapting.

Upper body sessions.

Exercises that don't compromise my recovery.

Working around the injury instead of using it as an excuse.

The goal now isn't chasing performance.

The goal is maintaining as much muscle as possible, supporting recovery, and returning stronger when the time is right.

Why Protein Coffee Plus Still Fits My Lifestyle

One thing injuries teach you is that routines matter.

When life changes unexpectedly, the habits you've already built become even more valuable.

Protein Coffee Plus is still the first thing I reach for every morning because it gives me:

  • High-quality collagen protein to support my daily protein intake.

  • Natural coffee for focus and productivity.

  • Electrolytes to help support hydration.

  • A quick, convenient option that fits into busy mornings.

The reasons I drink it have evolved.

The habit hasn't.

The Bigger Lesson

Whether your goal is fat loss, building muscle, improving sports performance or recovering from an injury, success rarely comes from one supplement.

It comes from consistently making good decisions.

Protein Coffee Plus was never designed to replace healthy eating.

It was designed to make healthy habits easier.

That's exactly what it's doing for me today.

Even while recovering from one of the biggest setbacks I've faced in years.

If you're looking for a protein coffee that fits into real life—whether you're training hard, working long days, or simply trying to support your health—Protein Coffee Plus was created for exactly that purpose.

Because your routine shouldn't stop just because life throws you a challenge.
